I have invented a theory... which, well, i dont believe in much. However, i have thought of this theory, which is as follows:
The total sum of the number of Souls in this world remains constant
over any given period of time.
This theory supports the hindu belief in reincarnation of souls. As they say in the Bhagavad Gita: 'Just as a man discards worn out clothes and puts on new clothes, the soul discards worn out bodies and puts on new ones."
So when one dies, there is transmigration of the soul and it takes on another suitable body, with some desirable circumstances, e.g. with regards to situation and family, specific to that particular soul. This theory also supports that all souls are at different stages of evolution. Thats why we see so many different types of people- some so good and some so lost... Isnt that also the reason why all babies are so similar but so different..? They all come with a personality of their own... Some like music, some like to laugh, some are restless, some are peaceful...
So, anyways, the theory says that at any given point in time, the number of living beings on earth is same. When one creature dies, another gets born. There may be some time-gap though, where the soul is 'in-between', getting over the whole just-over-life experience. But all in all, the number of lives on earth is constant over a given period of time.
This would reconciliate the theory of reincarnation with the issue of growing human population. This would answer how we have so many more people now since the early ages, and where these new souls (people) came from. So now we can explain it through this theory: these new souls have been upgraded from the level of plants, animals, insects, extinct species... and likewise, many unworthy human souls may also be downgraded to lower forms of life. And this cycle keeps on happening all the time.
When the human population, which is presently peaking towards a dangerous 7.3 billion by 2030, collapses eventually, it would lead to flourishing of other more-deserving, less-selfish species. The earth shall be filled with truly good souls then...
Well, this theory has an inherent short-coming, which it shares with what the world of science also finds hard to explain. And that is the Origin of the Universe. How, when and why the earth was created? And then, if these x number of souls were created at that point in time (during the big bang or whatever), or if these were created over billions of years, starting with 1, till it reached this constant 'ideal' value x, or if they have existed from eternity.
And if all these souls were created all at once, what were these souls doing when there were no life forms to inhabit... Another question is, what happens to the highly evolved souls? Whereto from here, buster? Since this theory propounds that the number of living beings is constant, the enlightened souls may simply start the whole evolution process again- from scratch... like at the level of a cyanobacteria... err, that prospect is quite uninspiring. Anyways, who am i to have all the answers.
Like i wrote in the beginning, I dont believe in this theory at all. (And the existence of an entity called 'Soul' could just be a wishful myth).
